Prayers are never in vain

Joel, Jia Tong, and Lukas are serving as lifegroup leaders in the youth group of Hope Church Singapore. They have been leading their school’s lifegroup together for about a year and experienced breakthroughs in prayer in the last 4 months.

In the past, they struggled with prayer as it felt too abstract, and wondered if there was a need to pray if God had a plan already. However, as they knew God more, they desired to pray more because they know that God cares about them and their loved ones. Growing in maturity, they saw prayer as necessary to align their will to God’s.

Their weekly prayer meets started when Jia Tong wanted to make prayer a habit in her life and personal ministry and invited Joel and Lukas to do it together. Though it was a weekly commitment on Sunday nights, they did not find it difficult to pray weekly as they found strength in praying as a community, desiring to see God move in the lifegroup and actually witnessing how God answered their prayers one by one.

God grew every one of their lifegroup member to have a heart for their school and for the lost. Even when there were no fruits from pioneering a lifegroup in their school consistently over a year, God sustained them in their desire and strength and they were empowered to share the Gospel boldly to the students and overcame their fear of men. Amazingly, they saw someone from Secondary 1 cross the line of faith in November! Many months of laboring was not in vain and they witnessed how God really pursued this Secondary 1 boy.

Another lifegroup member was struggling in her faith and her heart was cold towards God. Through weeks of prayer for this member, the Holy Spirit moved supernaturally and suddenly in her heart in the midst of a trial to grow her desire for the Word and be interested in the things of God. Since then, she has encountered miracles (healing) that have left her in awe of God, hungering for Him even more, and even received visions from God to minister to other church members!

Through this, they concluded that their prayers are not in vain and God indeed listens to every prayer. This encouraged them to pray more and believe that God can do even greater things than what they have experienced.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” - Matthew 5:6
